THE CALGARY SURGE SIGN JUSTIN LEWIS, 6’7’’ FORWARD FROM TOWSON, MARYLAND

May 01, 2024

MAY 1 – The Calgary Surge have signed six-foot-seven forward Justin Lewis for the 2024 season, the team announced Tuesday.

Lewis recently played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) G-League, splitting the season between the Salt Lake City Stars and the Windy City Bulls. Lewis averaged 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.2 steals, and 14.3 minutes in 29 games played with the Stars. While with the Chicago Bulls during the NBA G-League’s Showcase Cup, he averaged 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.6 steals, and 26.5 minutes in 14 games played.

He brings additional experience from the NBA, having played for the Chicago Bulls during the 2023-24 preseason and the NBA Summer League.

“Justin Lewis brings a level of toughness to our team. He’s a fierce competitor that wants to win by any means necessary. He will be relied upon to provide offensive versatility at the 3, 4 and 5 positions,” said Surge General Manager, Shane James. “His ability to guard all positions allows us to switch when needed without giving up any mismatches.”

The forward from Towson, Maryland attended Marquette University, playing his freshman and sophomore years for the Golden Eagles where he averaged 12.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.7 steals, and 26.6 minutes in 53 games played in the NCAA.

“I am very excited to play for the Surge this season,” said Surge forward Justin Lewis. “Can’t wait to come and visit Canada for the first time and get to work!”

Prior to his time at Marquette, he graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, winning two-straight state titles in 2018 and 2019.
