Calgary Surge

The Calgary Surge tipped off their inaugural season at the WinSport Event Centre in May 2023, after originating as the Guelph Nighthawks, one of the founding members of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). From day one, the Surge have been committed to being the Home Team for Calgary and a space where everyone is welcome. 


The Calgary Surge are active members of the community and have participated in hundreds of events (and counting) around the city that connect the team with diverse communities through sport and entertainment. 


After a successful inaugural season that saw the Calgary Surge go all the way to the Championship Finals, the team looks forward to tipping off their second season in May at the WinSport Event Centre. Fans can expect even more excitement for 2024!


ABOUT THE CEBL


The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) is a league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives, and referees. The CEBL boasts the highest percentage of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 73 percent of its 2023 rosters being Canadian. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, top NCAA programs, and U SPORTS programs. Nine players have moved from the CEBL into the NBA following a CEBL season, and 28 CEBL players attended NBA G League training camps during October. The CEBL season runs from May to August.
