THE CALGARY SURGE ANNOUNCE THEIR BROADCAST TEAM

CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Surge have unveiled their broadcast team for the 2023 inaugural season, the team announced Wednesday.
Mitch Peacock joins the Calgary Surge as the team’s play-by-play announcer. Peacock comes to the Surge after a winter of calling World Cup alpine snowboard events and action from Europe’s Champions Hockey League. Last year, the versatile play-by-play announcer worked his fifth Olympics with CBC. He has been in the booth for short-track speed skating, diving, soccer, field hockey, and freestyle skiing. He was also a former rink reporter on Hockey Night in Canada, host of Calgary Flames Radio, and Fox Soccer Report Anchor.
“I am excited to join the Calgary Surge broadcast team and help share Calgary hardwood history with CEBL fans everywhere,” said Peacock.
Cami Kepke joins the Calgary Surge as the team’s sideline reporter. Kepke brings seven years of award-winning television sports reporting to the table with a passion for supporting community teams. She has previously shot, written, produced, and anchored Global Calgary’s weekend sportscasts and provided local coverage of the Stanley Cup playoffs, 2019 Heritage Classic, and 2019 Grey Cup. She has jumped on the mic to provide colour commentary and play-by-play for several sports and leagues ranging from university volleyball to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. She also held down the sidelines for the 2023 Canada West Women’s Basketball Championship, 2022 USPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship, and University of Calgary Dinos football games.
“I am thrilled to see a CEBL team land in Calgary after covering the Edmonton Stingers’ victory over Cangrejeros and Real Esteli at the Basketball Champions League Americas in 2022. I cannot wait to be on the sidelines for the Surge this summer,” said Kepke.
Jamaine Cummings joins the Calgary Surge as the team’s colour commentator. Cummings served as the colour commentator for the SAIT Trojans basketball team from 2016 to 2023 and for the Okotoks Dawgs baseball team in 2022. He was the colour commentator at the 2023 ACAC Men’s Basketball Provincial Championship and at the 2023 CCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. He is also a member of the YYCSOLEdiers, Calgary’s longest-running sneaker club and the Master of Ceremonies for the club’s annual Sneaker Swap Event.
“Calgary, the time has finally come! I know how much the game of basketball means to this city and I am honoured and humbled to be part of the game day broadcast for the Home Team, your Calgary Surge. So, from Springbank to East Hills, and every point in between, let’s giddy up,” said Cummings.
About the Calgary Surge
The Calgary franchise originated as the Guelph Nighthawks in 2018, one of the six founding members of the CEBL. The organization was relocated from the league’s smallest market to Calgary in August 2022 as part of the growing league's business strategy to have teams in Canada’s largest metropolitan areas. Chairman Usman Tahir Jutt and Vice-Chairman and President Jason Ribeiro saw an opportunity to bridge Calgary’s diverse communities together through sport and entertainment and to create a sense of belonging.
