JUNE 8 - The Calgary Surge are thrilled to announce the addition of three dynamic players to their roster for the 2024 season. Signings include the return of 6’11 center Jordy Tshimanga, and the addition of 6' 6” guard, Trhae Mitchell and 6 '9 center, Yvan Ouedraogo, the team announced Thursday.
“We are extremely excited about the signings of Jordy, Trhae, and Yvan. All three are high-character guys who bring something unique to our current roster,” said Surge General Manager Shane James.
Jordy Tshimanga returns to the Surge after being a part of a successful 2023 campaign. The 6’10” center most recently played with the KB Trepca Mitrovice in the Kosovo Basketball Superleague where he averaged 11.1 points, 10.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1.1 blocks, 0.8 steals, and 21.8 minutes in 21 games played.
“Jordy was a huge piece of our success last season, and we are looking forward to having his big presence back, not only on the floor but also in the locker room,” continued James.
Trhae Mitchell joins the Surge after having most recently played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) G-League where he averaged 6.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 blocks, 1.7 steals, and 30.3 minutes in 49 games played.
“Trhae was named to the All-Defensive 1st Team in the G-League. He’s a lockdown defender who disrupts offenses at a high level. He is also a major threat from the 3-point line and will be a valuable spacer for us,” said James.
Yvan Ouedraogo joins the Surge after recently playing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) with the California Baptist Lancers where he averaged 10.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 blocks, 0.6 steals, and 9.2 minutes in 31 games played.
“Yvan brings a level of physicality to our roster. He is a young player who just graduated from the NCAA, and this experience will be great for him. He has got a good feel for the game, coming from France, and is a very intelligent basketball player,” concluded James.
